Lieutenant-Colonel  R.W. McBride   OMM, CD

From 1969 to 2004 Lieutenant Colonel Robert (Bob) McBride has held a number of regimental appointments from the position of rifleman to Deputy Commanding Officer, 1st Battalion, The Royal Canadian Regiment (The RCR).  Staff appointments have included Personal Assistant to the Commander, Canadian Contingent United Nations Middle East (CCUNME); Executive Assistant to the Commander Special Service Force; Base Information Officer, CFB Petawawa; and Deputy Assistant Chief Staff of Staff (G3), HQ AMF(L) in Heidelberg Germany.  On 1 July 98, he was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel, and posted to 31 Canadian Brigade Group as Chief of Staff and concurrently as Commander Home Station, The RCR.  He is a graduate of the Australian Army Command and Staff College, has served on UN duty in Egypt and Cyprus and has completed two tours of duty with NATO in Germany.  His last appointment before transferring to the Reserve Army was as Base Commander CFB / ASU Petawawa.

            Lieutenant Colonel McBride has maintained an active community interest and in the past was a Scout Leader, member of St John’s Ambulance, assisted the Salvation Army and, with his wife Julie, was a foster parent for over eight years.  He was appointed to the Order of Military Merit in May 1991 for past service to the military and civilian communities.  Julie and he have two sons both whom serve in the military.  The eldest, Robert is currently serving in Sri Leon and the youngest, Brian is posted to Edmonton.

            Lieutenant Colonel McBride retired from the Regular Army in October 2004 after 35 years in uniform (both regular and reserve).  He and his wife Julie currently reside in Petawawa, Ontario.  He currently works full time at the LFCA Simulation Centre at CFB / ASU Petawawa.  He assumed command of the Algonquin Regiment on 22 April, 2006.
