Chief Warrant Officer Ronald L. Drouin, CD
Chief Warrant Officer (CWO) Drouin was born in 1955 and raised in Timmins where he still resides. He is the son of Albert and Ange-aimee Drouin. He attended Ecole St-Joseph, St. Charles, St-Gerard and Ecole Secondaire Theriault.
CWO Drouin joined The Algonquin Regiment in May of 1973 as a recruit in the summer Student Employment Action Program. e qualified as a Private Pay Level C by September of that same year, having previously served the local Algonquin Cadet Corps and the 101 Tiger Sea Cadets. In March of 1975he began leadership training on the Junior Non-Comissioned Officer Course Block1. As part of this training he was appointed an Acting Corporal and an Instructor for the 1975 summer training porgram. He went on to complete the qualification in August and was promoted to Corporal in 1976. He served as a Section Second in Command and Section Commander from 1978 to 1981.
CWO Drouin completed his Senior Non-Commissioned Officer Training during January to May 1981 and was promoted to Sergeant in August 1981. As a Sergeant he served as a Section Commander and Platoon Second in Command. Also, being a qualified machine-gunner, he commanded the Platoon Support Weapons Group. He went on to complete his Trade Qualification Course Level 4 in Aldershot Nova Scotia during July `985m and was promoted to Warant Officer in December 1985. He then worked as a Platoon Second in Command and a Training NCO in the Bravo Company Training.
During 1987, CWO Drouin successfully completed his Master Warrant Officer's Course in Aldershot. He was promoted toMaster Warrant Officer in August 1991 and appointed Company Sergeant Major of Bravo Company in Timmins. After serving 7 years in this position and serving as CSM at many summer exercises, he was promoted to Chief Warrant Officer and appointed Regimental Sergeant Major on May 23, 1998. As RSM, CWO Drouin is primarily responsible for dres, deportment, disciplin and drill. He also shares his knowledge and experience with unit member in CWO Drouin has been awarded the Canadian Forces Decoration and The Queen's Golden Jubile Medal.
CWO Drouin married another Algonquin, Sarah Byrnes in 1978. They have two children; Kimberly 24 and Alexader 22. CWO Drouin has been a member of the Royal Canadan Legion Branch 287 South Porcupine for the past 27 years and is currently doing a third term as President of that Branch. He also was Akela of the 5th Timmins Beavers and Cubs and was Chairman of Mountjoy United Church Council. As an employee of Canada Post, Ron has ben delivering mail in Timmins for 30 years. He has served in the office of President of Local 77 of the Letter Carriier's Union of Canada and as a Shop Stewart for both the LCUC and the Canadian Union of Postal Workers.
His favouirite hobby is collecting military memorabilia and studying military history.
